Volunteering has always been a way for me to hone my skills and expand my network, and it’s something I’m truly passionate about. One of my most memorable volunteer experiences took place at my school, Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite. If you’ve read my first blog post, you’d know how I began volunteering for documentation purposes in photo and video, and it has been a rewarding journey ever since.
In the latter part of the semester, we heard about the formation of a new student organization dedicated to events and production, which immediately caught my interest. I decided to sign up and applied for the role of production manager, which I eventually got. I was excited to take on more event coverage in 2024 and to be involved in such a dynamic role.
Fast forward to July 2024, when the big event arrived – the graduation ceremonies for both college and grade 12 students. We were covering two full days of celebrations, and one of the highlights was that I got to work alongside my classmate Bryan, who is also active in volunteering. It was a relief to have a familiar face with me, someone I could talk to and share the experience with.
One of the most exciting firsts for me during this event was wearing and using an intercom system for the first time. It’s the headset worn by production crews to communicate with the director and others during an event, and as a communication student, it made me feel like I truly belonged in that production environment. Even though I was on the second floor, I could hear instructions and updates, which was a surreal experience.
Along with the opportunity to meet and work with new people, mostly from the engineering team, I also had the privilege of collaborating with the Marketing and Communications Office. The admin team, who opened up volunteerism opportunities for the event, made the entire experience seamless. This event was also special because it marked my first time visiting the Emilio Aguinaldo College Main Campus and staying at Pearl Hotel, which made the whole experience even more unforgettable.
This was truly a memorable chapter in my volunteer journey, proving that every click of the camera and every new connection is more than just a moment captured – it’s about the growth, experience, and stories shared.
